兵庫県丹波篠山市を拠点に制作するRyu Hoki（リュウ・ホウキ）。陶を素材としながら、和紙がもつ繊細な質感や、手で触れたときのやわらかな印象を磁器によって表現しています。焼成の過程で生まれる自然な歪みや重なりを受け入れながら、素材の変化そのものを造形へと取り込んでいます。表面に現れる細かな皺や層は、一つひとつ異なる景色をつくり、光を受けることでその表情を静かに変えていきます。均一さを求めるのではなく、焼成によって生まれるわずかな揺らぎを積み重ねることで、磁器という素材の新たな可能性を見せてくれます。

Based in Tamba-Sasayama, Hyogo, Ryu Hoki works primarily with porcelain, exploring how the delicate texture of washi paper and its soft tactile qualities can be expressed through this refined ceramic material. Embracing the subtle distortions and layered surfaces that emerge during firing, the artist incorporates the material’s natural transformation into the very form of each work. Fine creases and layered textures create unique surfaces that shift gently with changing light. Rather than pursuing uniformity, Hoki allows the subtle variations born in the kiln to accumulate, revealing new expressive possibilities within porcelain. This exhibition features vessels and sculptural works from the artist’s Washi-textured Porcelain series.
