本展では、奈良県水間で作陶する陶芸家・辻村唯の仕事をご紹介します。
陶芸家・辻村史朗の長男として生まれ、幼少の頃から古陶磁に触れて育った辻村唯は、とりわけ猿投などの須恵器に強く惹かれてきました。2003年の初個展以来、一貫して自然釉の仕事に取り組み、黙々と制作を続けています。
自然釉とは、焼成中に薪の灰が器物に降り積もり、長時間の高温によって土の成分と溶け合い、ガラス質へと変化して生まれる釉薬のことです。古墳時代の須恵器は、丘陵の斜面をくりぬいたトンネル状の窖窯（あながま）で焼成されました。須恵器をはじめ、中世の伊賀焼や信　楽焼にも、自然釉による豊かな表情を見ることができます。
辻村の自然釉は、自ら築いた窖窯と独自の焼成によって生み出されます。その表情は古陶の再現ではなく、深く冴えた緑の光を帯び、辻村ならではの景色を見せます。また、その作品は置かれる環境によって佇まいを大きく変えます。薄暗く静謐な茶室のような空間で作品と向き合うとき、そこには一人の作り手の時間を超え、遥かな時の積み重なりを思わせるような深みが立ち現れます。長年積み重ねられてきた仕事の深さ、そしてその静かな佇まいの奥にある作り手の優しさまで感じ取ることができるように思います。本展では、新作の大壺をはじめ、日々の器まで多数出展いたします。

This exhibition presents the work of ceramic artist Yui Tsujimura, who works in Mima, Nara.
The eldest son of ceramic artist Shiro Tsujimura, Yui grew up surrounded by ancient ceramics and developed a particular fascination with Sue ware, especially pieces from the Sanage kiln. Since his first solo exhibition in 2003, he has consistently pursued work with natural ash glaze.
Natural ash glaze is formed when wood ash settles on the surface of a vessel during firing and, through prolonged exposure to high temperatures, melts together with components of the clay to form a glass-like glaze. Sue ware of the Kofun period was fired in tunnel-shaped climbing kilns dug into hillsides. Rich natural ash glazing can also be found on medieval Iga and Shigaraki ware.
Tsujimura creates his natural ash glazes through his own anagama kiln and distinctive firing process. Rather than reproducing the appearance of ancient ceramics, his works reveal a deep, lucid green hue and a character uniquely his own. Their presence also changes considerably according to the space in which they are placed. In a dim and quiet tea room, for example, the works seem to evoke not only the passage of the artist’s own years of practice, but the accumulation of a much longer history.
