Shir\u014d Tsujimura continues to attract attention both within the Japanese ceramics world and on the international art scene for his distinctive forms and artistic activities. This exhibition, titled \u201cThe Inner Dynamism,\u201d<\/strong> presents the essence of what he has pursued throughout his life\u2014a creative vitality that bursts forth from the depths of his being, compelling him to give form to the formless.<\/p>

In his youth, Tsujimura aspired to be a painter and, at seventeen, became a temple acolyte in a Zen monastery. As he recalls, \u201cWhile I painted with all my might, a feeling of self-pursuit grew within me.\u201d Through rigorous training, he continually confronted the \u201cdynamism\u201d that resided deep within himself. After completing his monastic training, he returned to the world of painting, but an encounter with a small kiln at an art school became a turning point in his life. In the act of firing ceramics, he discovered the same spiritual exhilaration that painting had once given him.<\/p>

Later, a chance encounter with a large Oido tea bowl at the Komaba Japan Folk Crafts Museum became a lifelong guide for his work. He recalls:
\u201cIts profound generosity, embracing everything\u2014good and evil alike\u2014yet without pretension\u2026 It felt as if I were not merely observing a bowl, but facing a human presence, a spirit of great maternal compassion and universal mercy.\u201d<\/em><\/p>

To him, this single bowl conveyed the fundamental vitality of life. Even after building a small hut in the mountains of Nara to live and work, the root of his creation remained unchanged, always intertwined with \u201cinner Zen.\u201d As he has said:
\u201cBuilding these huts, painting, making ceramics, selling them\u2014they are all the same to me. I want to continue seeking something that emerges from inner Zen and the act of creation.\u201d<\/em><\/p>

His work is a continuous pursuit of finding stillness within movement, and life within stillness.<\/p>

The figure I have glimpsed over the past decade or more embodies this very \u201cinner dynamism.\u201d<\/strong> An unceasing quest, a core spirit that changes yet remains steadfast\u2014this is the origin of Shir\u014d Tsujimura\u2019s creativity. This exhibition brings together his latest works, including powder-glazed tea bowls, sake vessels, serving dishes, large jars, as well as calligraphy and paintings.
