We are pleased to announce an exhibition of lacquerware by Tomoaki Nakano, a lacquer artist from Sabae, Fukui. He bases his work on the traditional techniques of “Echizen lacquerware,” which he inherited from his father. Unlike the usual division of labor in lacquerware production, Nakano collaborates with woodworkers and is involved in every stage of the process, from undercoating to top-coating. His dedication to comfort and his precise top-coating technique give his pieces a soft, elegant expression. The exhibition will feature a variety of lacquerware, including bowls, trays, cutlery, and special tiered boxes for festive occasions.
