We are pleased to present an exhibition of works by Yoshitake Kihira, a wood artist based in Toyota, Aichi Prefecture. Kihira creates his pieces without the use of machinery such as a lathe. Instead, each vessel is carefully shaped by hand\u2014carved, refined, and polished with chisels, planes, and sandpaper\u2014while attentively responding to the natural direction and character of the wood grain. Through this patient process, his works emerge with a quiet tension and clarity of form, yet retain a gentle warmth. Subtle undulations, natural tones, and the unique expressions inherent to each piece of wood are embraced rather than concealed. The resulting forms settle comfortably into the hands, gradually becoming part of everyday life and the rhythms of the table. This exhibition will feature his signature plates, bowls, and trays for daily use, along with works specially prepared for the occasion.
