We are pleased to present an exhibition of works by Noriyuki Furutani, a ceramic artist based in Shigaraki, Shiga Prefecture. Drawing on experiences in Japan and abroad, Furutani creates a wide range of pieces—from everyday vessels in black glaze, kohiki, and yellow glaze to the tenmoku works he has long pursued. Tenmoku has been a central theme since his student years, a field he approaches with quiet attentiveness, observing subtle changes in glaze and flame. The soft light and gentle movement within the deep black reflect his distinctive sensibility. His everyday tableware carries an openness that brings out the character of the clay and settles naturally into daily life. Furutani’s belief that a vessel is completed by the food it holds is evident throughout his work. This exhibition presents tenmoku tea bowls and sake ware alongside a selection of pieces for everyday use. We invite you to enjoy the range of expression born from his kiln.
