No.186 Yoji Yamada: Pottery Mar. 8 – Mar. 20, 2024 Friday – Wednesday 11:00 – 18:30 MAP: Kyoto yamahon
We are pleased to present an exhibition of Yoji Yamada, who mainly produces slipware ceramics in Shigaraki, Shiga Prefecture. He studied ceramics in England, the home of slipware, and after returning to Japan, he began making ceramics in his hometown in Shiga Prefecture. In addition to traditional ovenware, he has also established his own style called “Yakishime (non-glazed) slip” using Shigaraki clay, and produces a wide variety of slipware suitable for the modern Japanese dining table. The dynamic patterns that he creates as his hands go about their work are never the same, always surprising and inspiring us with fresh surprises. In this exhibition, Yamada will exhibit mainly dishes, bowls, and other daily-use vessels.
