We are pleased to present an exhibition of works by Hisayo Kurohata, a ceramic artist based in Ukiha City, Fukuoka Prefecture. Using techniques such as hand-building, hollowing, wheel-throwing, and raku firing, Kurohata lets the clay guide her process, allowing each form to emerge naturally. Soft grays, muted pinks, and the subdued luster unique to raku ware give her pieces a quiet depth. The ink from newspaper used during firing seeps into the crackles, creating an aged, timeworn appearance full of subtle, unpredictable variations. These vessels slowly change with use, growing more familiar with each passing day. The exhibition features bowls, cups, plates, vases, and small objects. We invite you to hold them in your hands and imagine the moments they might share with you.
