京都市京北町にて活動される新宮州三さんの展覧会を開催いたします。新宮さんは鑿（のみ）や鉋（かんな）を使い形を削り出す刳物と呼ばれる技法から、轆轤を用いて形を作る挽物といった木地作りに始まり、漆を使った仕上げまで一貫した制作をされています。京北の豊かな自然の中で生まれる作品は、木が本来持つ野性味が損なわれることなく、自然の力強さを直に感じられます。今展では酒器を中心に、折敷やお盆など日常使いの漆器が並びます。どうぞご高覧下さい。

We are pleased to announce an exhibition by Kyoto-based woodworking artist Shuzo Shingu.
He makes works all through the process by himself, from creating wooden base materials with two traditional technique of woodworking called Kurimono (hollowing out a block of wood with chisels and planes) and Hikimono (using spinning wheels and lathes to make round objects), to the lacquering with Japanese urushi. The luxuriant nature of Keihoku contributes to his works, which retain the wild taste of wood and you could feel the magnificent nature immediately. This exhibition presents works centering on drinking vessels. Other lacquered ware, such as bowls and Oshiki (wooden trayare) will also be displayed. We are looking forward to your visit.
